As part of this year's event, we are thrilled to present an unforgettable Day 2 field day experience that promises to be both educational and inspiring.

After a hearty buffet breakfast at the Elmsdale Fire Hall, we’ll head to the woods and visit operations on Elmsdale Lumber’s freehold lands in Renfrew, NS, which is now a small ghost town but in it’s day, was the site of some of the most successful gold mines in the Maritimes.

Multiuse Land base Stop – Affiliated private land located in an area managed for forest resources along with strong historical, recreational, and cultural values. This stop highlights various considerations when managing a land base for multiple uses and how that has influenced prescriptions for this site over the last decade.

Mechanized Stand Cleaning Operation – Hyundai 35Z-9A excavator outfitted with a TMK 200 Tree Shear with collector and grapple blade owned by J.C Contracting. This machine will be performing a thin to waste treatment in a 25-year-old managed softwood stand.

Commercial Thinning Processing Head – Sany SY 60C excavator outfitted with a JOBO ST50 Combi processing head owned by J.C Contracting. This machine will be performing a first entry commercial thinning in a 25-year-old managed softwood stand.

Final Harvest 8 Wheel Drive Harvester – Ponsse Ergo with H7 harvesting head owned by Beaver Dam Enterprises. This machine will be performing a final harvest in a mature mixed wood stand.

The excitement doesn't stop there! Following our enlightening field trip, we'll head back to the mill site for lunch and a tour of the innovative Elmsdale Lumber sawmill facility, where you'll catch cutting-edge technology in action and gain insights into the future of the lumber industry.
